Editorial standards and corrections
This page exists so any claim on this site can be checked. It covers where our reporting comes from, how we handle allegations of cheating, who funds the site, and what happens when we get something wrong.
Sourcing
- Name the source. Results, prize figures, regulatory decisions and fines are attributed to the body or publication that reported them, with a link. We do not write "reports suggest" without saying whose report.
- Date everything that moves. Prize pools, player counts, legal status and software pricing change. We state the date a figure was true as of, so a reader can tell when a number has gone stale.
- Primary over secondary. Where a regulator, court or operator has published a document, we cite that document rather than coverage of it.
- Say what we do not know. An open question is reported as open. We do not fill a gap with a plausible guess.
Reporting on cheating and integrity
Integrity stories carry a real risk of harming people who have done nothing wrong, so we hold them to a higher bar.
- We name an individual only where a regulator, court, operator or the person themselves has put the allegation on the record, and we say which.
- An accusation circulating in the community is reported as an accusation, with who is making it, and is not stated as fact.
- We distinguish between a finding (a body with jurisdiction concluded it), an admission, and a suspicion.
- We do not publish detection-evasion detail that would help someone cheat.
How we are funded
- Affiliate and referral links. Some outbound links may earn us a commission. That funds the reporting. It has no input into what we cover or what we conclude, and we do not accept payment to publish, alter or remove a story.
- Sponsored content. Anything paid for is labelled as sponsored at the top of the page and is kept out of news coverage. See Partner with us.
Corrections
We correct errors in place and note the change rather than quietly deleting. Material corrections, meaning anything that alters a fact, a figure or an allegation, are marked with an updated date on the article. Email [email protected] if you find one, and include the URL and what is wrong. If we have reported an allegation against you that has since been resolved, tell us and we will update the story.
